PREPARTION FOR CHEMOTHERAPY
PRE AND POST TREATMENT EDUCATIONAL COUNSELING
Penny is a Nurse Practitioner who received her Master of Science in Nursing from Duke University in 2006. She Specialized in adult (oncology) and geriatric care and is certified in both. Penny has been a registered nurse since 1986 working primarily in oncology and as a nursing instructor at Asheville-Buncombe Technical College for four years between 1999 and 2003. She is a prior recipient of the NC “Great 100” award, the American Cancer Society “Sword of Hope” and “State Impact Award.”
At Cancer Care of WNC, PA Penny assists patients in preparing for Chemotherapy and/or Biotherapy. She meets with patients and their families on an individual basis to discuss potential side effects of their treatment while highlighting ways to care for themselves during that time. Educational Counseling averages between sixty and ninety minutes based on individual needs. As an Oncology Nurse Practitioner and cancer survivor she is committed to helping patients and families prepare for treatment and care for themselves.
Penny currently is offering post treatment education counseling for patients who received adjuvant treatment for breast, colon cancer, and lymphoma. The focus of post treatment education covers long-term effects of treatment, routine surveillance, and other survivorship issues.
When not at Cancer Care she enjoys reading, old movies, hiking, spending time with her family, and way too much chocolate.
