Dr. Chand is a native of Kathmandu, Nepal. After graduating from Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine in Kathmandu, she and her husband came to the United States for post-graduate training, looking for an academic adventure. She completed her internship and residency from State University of New York, Syracuse. She joined a primary care practice in Internal Medicine in upstate New York, quickly realizing she wanted to further specialize in oncology, drawn by the care of patients who deal with devastating diagnosis with such grace.
Dr. Chand and her husband moved to North Carolina, looking for warmer climes. She did her Fellowship in Oncology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston Salem, North Carolina where she stayed on in the faculty for three years thereafter. She joined Cancer Care of WNC, PA in 2007. Asheville is now home, almost at par with Kathmandu.
Dr. Chand is married to Dr. Mohan Chand Thakuri, a fellow Oncologist, and has two children. She is out hiking with her family if the sun is up, each weekend. She enjoys hanging out with her kids, reading and unwinding in her very edible garden.
Dr. Chand is Board Certified in Medical Oncology and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
