Mridu Chand, MD

Dr. Mridu Chand joined Cancer Care of WNC, PA in 2007.  Her balanced approach to patient care unites her expertise with care and compassion. She has a calm and gentle manner and spends the time necessary to meet her patient’s needs.

Dr. Chand is a native of Kathmandu, Nepal. After graduating from Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine in Kathmandu, she and her husband came to the United States for post-graduate training, looking for an academic adventure. She completed her internship and residency from State University of New York, Syracuse. She joined a primary care practice in Internal Medicine in upstate New York.  Being drawn by the care of patients who deal with a devastating diagnosis of cancer, she quickly realized she wanted to further specialize in oncology. She did her Fellowship in Oncology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston Salem, North Carolina where she stayed on in the faculty for three years thereafter.  She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.

Dr. Chand and her husband, Dr. Mohan Chand Thakuri, moved to North Carolina, looking for warmer climate. Asheville is now home, almost at par with Kathmandu.  She enjoys hiking with her family on sunny days and hanging out with her children.  She also enjoys reading and unwinding in her very edible garden.
