In 1995, Andrea graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She moved to Greenville, South Carolina, and worked as a staff nurse at Greenville Memorial Hospital, primarily with ventilator-dependent patients. In 1996, Andrea accepted an assistant nurse manager position at Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, working with neurosurgical and brain-injured patients. While there, she was active in nursing education and mentored many nursing students from UNC-Charlotte and Queens College. She also developed an orientation program for nurse interns. She was eventually promoted to interim nurse manager. In 1999, she moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she attended critical care school at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. In 2001, Andrea moved to Asheville, North Carolina, and continued her career in critical care by working in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Joseph’s campus of Mission Hospitals. While at Mission, she was active in nursing education, mentoring nursing students and nurse interns. Andrea was also active in committees for retention, recruitment and education. During this time, Andrea obtained certification through the AACN in critical care and was also certified in advanced cardiac life support. In 2005, Andrea graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Master’s Degree in Nursing and an ANP certificate. She began her work in oncology at Cancer Care of WNC, PA in February 2006, providing quality care to oncology patients. Andrea holds an Advanced Certification in Oncology as a Nurse Practitioner. Here at Cancer Care of WNC, she is active in patient, as well as staff education. She is our resident BCLS instructor for staff, and maintains certification through the American Heart Association.
Andrea is an active member with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the North Carolina Nurses Association, the Oncology Nursing Society and the international honor society of Sigma Theta Tau.
